The Eugene Marathon is the Pacific Northwest’s largest marathon and takes place each spring on the last Sunday of April. The marathon and half marathon courses traverse through the communities of Eugene and Springfield, alongside the Willamette River, and on the same roads that the world’s best runners have competed on for over 50 years — most recently at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 in July of 2022. Portland International Raceway (PIR) is the home of the Pacific Office Automation 147. PIR is a 1.97-mile, 12-turn permanent road course owned by the City of Portland and operated under the Portland Parks and Recreation. Opened in 1960 to host sports car and drag racing, the 268-acre property hosts over 550 events annually including automotive and motorcycle road racing, motocross, cruise-ins and other special events including the Rose Cup Races. The inaugural Pacific Office Automation 147 in 2022 featured the NASCAR Xfinity Series and was won by A.J. Allmendinger. The race marked the first visit to the Pacific Northwest by a NASCAR national racing series since 2000. The Pacific Office Automation 147 is owned and operated by Green Savoree Portland, LLC, which also promotes the NTT INDYCAR Series’ Grand Prix of Portland.

The induction ceremony will be open to the public and will be held three days prior to the start of the 2024 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The 2024 NCAA outdoor track and field championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. It will be the 15th time the outdoor championships have been held in Oregon and the first time since 2022.

Opened in 1960 to host sports car and drag racing, the 268-acre property hosts over 550 events annually including automotive and motorcycle road racing, motocross, cruise-ins and other special events including the Rose Cup Races. PIR has been the site of many memorable INDYCAR races. Al Unser Jr. won the inaugural one in 1984, and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES returned in 2018 after an 11-year absence with 2017 and 2020 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato taking the checkered flag. The Father’s Day race of 1986 featured Mario Andretti victorious over his son Michael on the last lap by less than a second. The closest three-way road racing finish in INDYCAR SERIES history took place at PIR in 1997 when the top three were covered by just 0.055 of a second. The Grand Prix of Portland is owned and operated by Green Savoree Portland, LLC, which also promotes the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Pacific Office Automation 147 event at PIR.

Bill Bowerman Legacy Track & Field Clinic

Many small school coaches coach multiple sports, and therefore don't always get the opportunity to go to larger clinics due to time, distance and small school budgets. Yet these coaches have the same expectations as all other track coaches: teaching proper technique to a myriad of athletes in many events. Legendary coach Harry Marra will instruct this clinic at the Maupin Deschutes River Athletic Complex. The goal and vision from Bill Bowerman's son Jon, is to give access to high-quality coaching techniques to small school coaches. The clinic provides a unique chance for coaches to receive personal mentorship from Marra and then immediately apply these insights to their athletes on the second day of the event. This hands-on experience will lead to immediate improvements in athlete performance.

Flash will showcase the top 30 track and field photos of 2023 submitted by the sport's top photographers in the categories of: Action, Portraits & Stills, and Abstracts & Landscapes selected by our panel of expert judges. Awards for best in category as well as photo of the year will be announced at the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on and purchase the photos. Attendees will hear the judge’s deliberations, stories from shooting professional track meets and the individual processes of photographers in an interview session hosted by Tracklandia's Jeff Merrill. The work will be displayed in the Irving Street Studio in the EcoTrust Building. Hors d'oeuvres and 2 drink tickets provided with admission. Dress is formal/cocktail attire. Waverley Country Club will host the 5th U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship Aug. 24-27, 2023. The Portland club will be hosting its eighth USGA championship. Waverley Country Club first hosted the 1952 U.S. Women’s Amateur, won by Jackie Pung, followed by the 1964 U.S. Senior Amateur, won by William Higgins. In 1970, Lanny Wadkins defeated Tom Kite by one stroke in the sixth of the eight U.S. Amateur Championships that were conducted at 72 holes of stroke play. In 1981, Juli Inkster captured the second of her three consecutive U.S. Women’s Amateur titles, while in 1993, Tiger Woods won his third consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur. The 2023 U.S. Senior Women’s Open will be the 40th USGA championship to take place in Oregon. In 1896, Waverley became the second private golf club established west of the Mississippi River. Two-time U.S. Amateur champion H. Chandler Egan designed the present course on the east bank of the Willamette River, south of downtown Portland, between 1912 and 1924, and continued to make improvements to the classic layout until his death in 1936. In 2012, Gil Hanse led a course restoration project, reestablishing greens and bunkers and removing trees to uncover long hidden river views.

The State of Oregon is home to some of the most diverse landscape and scenic views in the entire United States. Over 360 state parks and a rugged Pacific Ocean coastline are just a few reasons why Oregon calls the adventurer at heart. Athletes looking for their next adventure will find a 1.2 mile down river swim in the Willamette River, a 56 mile ride through Oregon’s wine country and 13.1 mile run featuring Minto Brown Island Park. EARTHLETE Multi-Sport Race

EARTHLETE is an all-inclusive, "short" (by normal adventure race standards) energy-packed adventure, for novices to professionals. The race covers various disciplines and challenges along an epic journey. In July, EARTHLETE comes to the Pacific Northwest for the first time! Henry Hagg Lake has a capacity of nearly 60,000 acre-feet of water and a surface area of 1,113 acres while featuring a beautiful lake for fishing, 15-plus miles of hiking trails, and observation decks for wildlife-and bird-watching. The PNW does not disappoint when it comes to technical terrain and a gorgeous backdrop for our next EARTHLETE Adventure! Registration is open for our 3 staple events:

  • QUEST - Stand up paddle (approx. 1 mile), Swim (approx. 300-400 meters), Run/Hike (approx. 4-5 miles), and Mountain Bike (approx. 5-6 miles)

  • ROAM - Stand up paddle (approx. 1 mile), Run/Hike (approx. 4-5 miles), and Mountain Bike (approx. 5-6 miles)

  • TREK - RUN ONLY! (approx 4-5 miles)

National Veterans Wheelchair Games

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the world’s largest annual wheelchair sports and rehabilitation event solely for military veterans. The event demonstrates the unstoppable character of veterans and seeks to foster wider respect and opportunities for all people with disabilities. The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is open to all U.S. veterans with spinal cord injuries, amputations, multiple sclerosis, or other central neurological conditions who require a wheelchair for athletic competition. Every year, hundreds of American heroes from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the post-9/11 era compete in this celebration of sport, courage and camaraderie. Competitions will be taking place across Portland including the Oregon Convention Center, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland International Raceway, and the Oregon Zoo.

Formula E is the premier all-electric motorsport race series in the world and takes place in 11 international cities. This will be the first Formula E race in Portland, making it the 4th U.S. city to host a Formula E race since the league’s inception in 2015. Portland joins world cities like Berlin, London, and Sao Paolo in hosting a race this season.

Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo

Noted local photographer Ivan McClellan has been documenting Black rodeo culture for the better part of the last decade. On June 17, he's bringing the inaugural Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo to Portland Expo Center! The invitational rodeo will gather some of the top competitors from across the country with an emphasis on supporting Black western athletes and educating people on the cultural heritage of Black cowboys and cowgirls. The Eight Seconds Juneteenth Rodeo will be an inclusive educational and entertaining event that uses lighting, music and top western athletes to create a fresh rodeo platform.
