Dew Tour returns to Portland

The Dew Tour today announced its complete schedule for the 2011 season, which includes its return to Portland for the seventh straight year, August 11-14 at the Rose Quarter. The only city that has hosted the Dew Tour since its inception seven years ago, Portland will once again host the multi-sport event with new additions including a concrete skate street course and a skateboard bowl contest.

“I am looking forward to skating new and improved Dew Tour courses,” said Mountain Dew skate athlete Paul Rodriguez. “I think it’s great they’ve decided to change up the contest, and it should definitely help to showcase everyone’s talent.”

Updating this event for 2011, the Dew Tour is in discussions with recognized design and building groups, including California Skateparks, to collaborate on design and concrete elements of the street course. A skate bowl contest will make its debut in Portland this year, and fan-favorite competitions BMX dirt and park will return.

“The level of commitment and support received from the Rose Quarter and the City of Portland are a key reason why the Dew Tour has come back to Portland year after year,” said Chris Prybylo, Alli Vice President of Events and Dew Tour General Manager. “As the only host city to host the event since the Tour’s inception, we look forward to ongoing success in Portland for 2011 and in the future.”

Raising the stakes this year, the prize purse is increased per event along with the year-end bonuses. Over the course of the season, athletes will compete to accumulate points based on their individual-event finishes, and vie for the most overall points and the title of Dew Cup champion. The full Dew Tour schedule features multi-sport events at each of the four stops, including BMX dirt, park, and vert, and skateboard street and vert. Each event will feature a different mix of disciplines and specialty competitions, exposing returning markets to fresh experiences.

Entering its seventh year, the top athletes in the world will take part in the 2011 Dew Tour, all competing for the highly coveted Dew Cup that will be awarded at season’s end to champions in each of the five disciplines. The 2010 Dew Cup champions include Chaz Ortiz (skateboard park), Pierre-Luc Gagnon (skate vert), Daniel Dhers (BMX park), Jamie Bestwick (BMX vert) and Brandon Dosch (BMX dirt).

Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon scheduled for May 2012

Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI), the leading media and event company in the endurance sports industry, and the Portland Rose Festival today announced that Portland will become home to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series in 2012. The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon will bring its moving block party experience to one of the country’s most active cities on Sunday, May 20, 2012.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has grown to 19 marathons and half marathons across the country 2011, delivering the ultimate running experience by lining each course with the sounds of live, local bands, cheerleaders, and thousands of spectators helping to motivate and entertain each runner through their journey to the finish line.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon will feature a runner-friendly course, with limited elevation changes and a scenic tour highlighting the very best of the City of Roses. The course will start and finish downtown, offering scenic views of the Willamette River bridges and the Northern Downtown District, East Portland, Waterfront Park, Wallace City Park, Chapman and Lownsdale Squares and Laurelhurst Park.

A free two-day Health and Fitness Expo will be held Friday and Saturday to kickoff event weekend. The Expo will be open to the public and feature the latest health and nutrition information with a variety of products for sample and sale, as well as a series of interactive fitness clinics. Event weekend concludes with a post-race concert at the finish line, with all participants and volunteers receiving free entry. This week marks the official launch of Portland’s first new major professional sports franchise in more than four decades. The Portland Timbers play their first regular season Major League Soccer game on the road Saturday against the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. on FSN Northwest – fans can watch the match at the Timbers official viewing party at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub in downtown Portland. With the home opener less than a month away and more than 12,000 season tickets sold, the Timbers are poised for a spirited inaugural season in the newly named JELD-WEN Field. The addition of permanent seats surrounding the playing surface is expected to quickly produce one of the most intimate, intimidating and authentic soccer environments in the entire country.

Timbers single-game tickets go on sale March 21

The Portland Timbers announced today that single-game tickets for their inaugural Major League Soccer season will go on sale Monday, March 21. Additionally, the club has released a series of five-game ticket plans featuring premium matches throughout the 2011 campaign.

The Timbers today also announced that the team’s half-season ticket packages are sold out.

Single-game tickets for each regular-season home match, starting at $8, will be available for purchase on March 21 exclusively at the PGE Park box office from 7-10 p.m. Starting Tuesday, March 22, at 10 a.m., single-game tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster and fans will be able to purchase tickets through the stadium box office, local Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.tickemaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase single-game tickets during an exclusive pre-sale window from Tuesday, March 15, at 10 a.m. through Sunday, March 20, at 5 p.m.

The Timbers make their MLS home debut Thursday, April 14, as they play host to the Chicago Fire. The club will play 17 regular-season home matches, as well as a series of international exhibitions, at a newly renovated PGE Park in 2011.

The Timbers are now offering a variety of five-game ticket packages starting at $22 per seat in the Goal Box, Sideline Terrace and Timbers Army sections. The five-game packs are available now by calling the ticket office at (503) 553-5555.

The four different packages include a variety of exciting games throughout the season. Highlighting Plan C are tickets to both the home opener and finale, while Plan D includes all weekend matches (4 Saturday and 1 Friday match). Plan E includes the opportunity to see Northwest-rival Seattle Sounders FC and Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls. Tickets to see Landon Donovan and the LA Galaxy as well as three international exhibition matches are included in Plan F.
