USGA championships awarded to Bandon Dunes for 2011
Bandon Dunes, the highly-regarded Oregon Coast resort, will be host to two United States Golf Association championships in 2011, the organization announced Wednesday.
The U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Links championships will be held June 27-July 2. It will be the first time the tournaments are contested jointly.
The Public Links championships are for golfers who are based at public courses. The men’s championship started in 1922, and the women’s was added in 1977.
The week will mark the third occasion in which the USGA has held a championship at Bandon Dunes. In 2006, the Curtis Cup — an international team competition for women — was held, with the United State defeating Great Britain, and in 2007, the U.S. Mid-Amateur was won by Trip Kuehne.
