Throws facility: gold dream

Mac Wilkins’ vision was largely under water last week — not that it deterred the former Olympic gold medalist.

When Wilkins walked a visitor around the Concordia Throws Center, he talked glowingly about the way the project will look when the drainage is completed, the irrigation installed, the grass growing and the throwing cages are in place.

If all stays on schedule, Wilkins said, Concordia University, the tiny NAIA school in Northeast Portland, will have the finest throws-only facility in the United States by June 1.
