Portland in good shape to land Davis Cup World Final
Maybe I’m misinterpreting signals here. But assuming the United States and Russia win semifinal ties later this month, I think the Davis Cup finals are coming to Portland.
After a half-hour interview at the U.S. Open with Jeff Ryan, the USA team events director for the U.S. Tennis Association, my read is that signs point toward the City of Roses playing host to international team tennis’s biggest event Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
“We’re very, very serious about Portland,” says Ryan, stopping short of naming Memorial Coliseum as the site of the 2007 finals.
