Portland bidding for figure skating championships
Portland is on the verge of landing an important sporting event, as it is one of four cities bidding on the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
The 2010 event takes place Jan. 13-24 and serves as a de facto U.S. Olympic trials. The top two placers in ladies, men, pairs and ice dancing earn a berth on the U.S. squad for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.
Members of the Oregon Sports Authority played host to a three-person committee from the U.S. Figure Skating Association earlier this week. They were in the city to take a look at the Rose Garden, Memorial Coliseum and listen to a presentation from local officials.
