Pittsburgh Penguins look to leave
The Pittsburgh Penguins sent a letter to state and county officials today saying that they are at an impasse in negotiations to build a new arena and that the team is actively looking to relocate.
Which brings up the next question of: Relocate to where?
Kansas City, which is sitting on a new but tenant-less arena, is offering free rent and a cut of the revenues to the team. A pretty attractive offer.
But Drew Mahalic thinks that Portland stands “head and shoulders” above any other potential relocation city. (Though, as the executive director of the state’s sports marketing arm, he kind of has to say that.)
