Surftides Nelscott Reef Unvitational Open

The Surftides Nelscott Reef Unvitational Open is set to run on Sunday January 19th starting around 9:00am and finishing about 4:00pm. This eighth running of the big wave event by Behemoth llc is open to qualified big wave surfers both Paddle In and Stand Up Paddle In.

Sunday’s surf is predicted to be 30′+ with light offshore winds and 64F. Each surfer will have an hour and a half to compete for Biggest Wave, Biggest Wave SUP, Biggest Wave Woman, Ride of the Day, Worst Wipeout, to be determined by photo and video review at the awards ceremony following the event at appx 6:00pm. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Surftides Resort in Lincoln City.

Additionally, the photographer providing the winning photo/video for each class will get a cash award along with the surfer. There will be an award for the best video/photo montage for the photographer/videographer and an award for the Safety team member who makes the best save during the contest. There will be a total of $5000 to be awarded along with trophies during the Ceremony. The winners will be determined by audience participation and is open to the public along with the athletes and staff. Audience dining is available from the Award Winning Mist Restaurant above the Convention room and a no host bar.

There will be live music from ZUHG and raffle and giveaways. There is a $10 entry fee for the public and two non perishable food items for the Oregon Food Bank. The Surftides Resort is offering discounted oceanfront rooms in view of Nelscott Reef for all participants.

The NRUO/Photo Edition is made possible by a grant from the City of Lincoln City, the Oregon Sports Authority, Oregon Beach Vacations, Westshore Oceanfront Motel,Ocean Terrace Condos, Dsands Motel, surfersv, Surfline and Liquid Militia Clothing.
