Mt. Hood tries to bring Olympic Swimming Trials to Gresham
The U.S. Olympic swim trials are going on 1,700 miles away this week, but a local committee is working on a proposal to bring the 2012 Trials closer to home.
The 20-person committee is entering the initial phases of finding local funding and sponsorships needed to host the country’s biggest swim meet. The idea started when Mt. Hood Community College rebuilt its outdoor pool last summer, making it into a world-class Olympic-sized venue.
The effort got a jolt three months ago when the National Events Director for USA Swimming contacted the college and arranged to see the facility.
