Legislature approves UO arena

After years of hoping, months of planning and a few hectic weeks of lobbying, the University of Oregon won approval Friday from the Legislature for $200 million in state-backed bonds to build a basketball arena.

The facility, to replace 82-year-old McArthur Court in Eugene, would be the most expensive on-campus arena in the nation and the largest single bonding project in the history of Oregon’s public universities.

The Senate and House each passed SB 5555, relating to capital construction, and HB 5100, relating to bonding authority.
