AC Green, author, speaker and successful businessman announced today he has acquired the rights to the Portland 3BA franchise team. Green, a 3-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers and reigning “NBA Ironman” held a press conference at the Hotel Deluxe in Portland on June 29.

3BA basketball is a high-powered professional sporting event and a true entertainment experience for all fans. The concept requires superior athleticism and showcases the most dynamic aspects of basketball.

The game is a full court professional level 3 on 3 game that is challenging for players and highly entertaining for fans. Rules of the game place significant emphasis on speed, stamina and fundamental skills!

Green is considering partners and has confirmed the 3BA game in Portland is now a reality.

“This is an exciting time for basketball in the state of Oregon. The opportunity to provide an innovative, low cost, high entertainment event for families is exciting,” said Green.

Since leaving the NBA, AC started the AC Green Youth Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to help young people build self-esteem, character, and learn moral and ethical principles that will help them make responsible life decisions.

Green became involved with 3BA International in 2008 after hearing of the new game from Lamar Hurd, a fellow Oregon State alum. Hurd believed the mission of 3BA and the AC Green youth foundation held common ground and could be strong partners for introducing the new game furthering the objectives of both organizations missions.

It may take a little magic to find a big enough piece of property for a new minor league baseball stadium in Portland.

The land must be large enough to accommodate a 6,500- to 9,000-seat stadium and at least 1,500 parking spaces, have access to light rail and other mass transit and be centrally located.

If it’s owned by the city, all the better, because buying the 10 to 20 acres needed from a private owner would surely cost millions, although a land swap could solve that financial hurdle.

And because Portland Beavers owner Merritt Paulson is seeking public financing for the project, a viable site should also be inside one of the city’s 11 urban renewal areas.

Consider it a little necessary breathing room.

That doesn’t mean the race to negotiate a complex set of agreements to remodel PGE Park for Major League Soccer while finding a new home for the Triple A Portland Beavers baseball team has the luxury of time.

Merritt Paulson, who owns the Beavers and the Portland Timbers soccer team, must have a signed finance and construction deal with the city to renovate PGE Park by Sept. 1 to bring Major League Soccer to town in spring 2011.

The PGE Park work will be phased in to allow the Beavers to play there most of the 2010 season. Initial plans call for adding about 10,000 seats to the existing 19,980 seats, making the stadium more of a bowl than the triangle it is now. Wider concourses and more bathrooms and concession stands will accommodate the expected larger soccer crowds.

The Portland City Council voted 4-1 on Wednesday to separate the soccer and baseball stadium projects after months of numbers crunching, behind-the-scenes wrangling and emotional community meetings.
