
End of a love affair, for now
It was 26 years ago when Bill Hildick, chairman of the Rose Festival race committee, approached larger-than-life Championship Auto Racing Teams boss John Frasco about staging an event in Portland.
Frasco was less than enthused.
Hildick kept talking, but Big John could not imagine Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt and Al Unser Sr. tearing around a city-owned permanent road course in Portland, Oregon.
