Beavers, Timbers get new owner
Merritt Paulson, the son of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, today will be introduced as majority owner and president of the city’s minor league baseball team, the Portland Beavers, and its professional soccer franchise, the Portland Timbers.
The surprise deal, announced Monday, puts two recently unstable franchises in the hands of Merritt Paulson, 34, a former director of marketing and entertainment for NBA Entertainment, who for at least the past year has been eager to own a sports team.
Specifics of the sale were not released, and it was not immediately clear how the deal materialized.
